Dancing Mindfulness is a trauma-informed (what this means is that it recognizes, understands, and responds to the effects/impact of traumatic experiences) movement experience. It is a practice that blossomed from founder Jamie Marich's (PhD, Licensed Professional Counsellor, EMDR trainer) clinical experiences working with folks who have experienced trauma.
As a trained Dancing Mindfulness facilitator, I create a space that feels free of danger and we build emotional safety together. Unlike other types of conscious dance forms, there is no structure, choreography, no steps to follow. Instead, you are invited to move to music, along with invitations from me, at a pace that feels intuitive, honouring, good, nurturing, and restorative to your body. We use a mindfulness-based (deliberately paying attention in a non-judgemental way) structure to move with seven attitudes of mindfulness. This experience is open to people of all body sizes and abilities. Dancing Mindfulness experiences may be facilitated one on one or in a group.
